Frankfurt School Class Visits the Chair of Fluid Systems
2026/03/16 by Kevin Logan
The class explored science and technology in their English course. At FST, the students gained first-hand insight into everyday research in engineering.
As part of their English curriculum, class 12g from Ernst-Reuter-Schule 1 explored the theme of “Science and Technology” through literary and journalistic texts. To complement this classroom perspective with first-hand insight into scientific practice, the students visited the Chair of Fluid Systems.
During the visit, Prof. Pelz introduced the students to the institute and the broad spectrum of its research activities. He emphasized that curiosity, methodological rigor, and collaboration are essential to scientific work. At the same time, he offered insight into both the intellectual freedom associated with research and its dependence on external funding. He also underlined the importance of cooperation and mutual support within research groups and across the institute as a whole.
Kevin Logan, research associate at the institute, then provided an overview of his work within the emergenCITY project. Speaking from the perspective of both a doctoral researcher and a member of the academic staff, he outlined his role and offered the students a valuable impression of day-to-day research practice.
The visit concluded with a tour of the institute’s experimental facilities, led by Timon Krimm and Kevin Logan. In addition to presenting the purpose and function of the various test rigs, they also spoke about the everyday work of researchers and the practical dimensions of experimental research.
The Institute of Fluid Systems Engineering would like to thank class 12g for their visit and wishes all students every success in writing their report.
