unworn drive screws of different three-spindle screw pumps
unworn drive screws of different three-spindle screw pumps

Screw pumps are characterised by their low-pulsation pumping behaviour, which is also accompanied by low shearing of the pumped fluid. At the same time, very high volumetric efficiencies are achieved. Industrial users are therefore increasingly opting to use screw pumps, which presents manufacturers with the growing challenge of conveying abrasive particles along with the pumped liquid. The applications range from the food industry, for example during manufacturing of raspberry yoghurt, to the process industry and the pumping of crude oil.

As the wear behaviour is a system property, the findings from standardised materials science test procedures cannot simply be transferred to the application. In order to be able to predict the wear behaviour in such applications and to derive application and design guidelines, I dedicate myself to the systematic and yet application-oriented experimental investigation of different types of screw pumps in operation with highly abrasive media.
