With the poster “Plug-and-Approve? Potentials and Limitations of a Semantic PEA Documentation in the Asset Administration Shell”, a team from FST and Industrial Science generated a lot of lively discussion.

A team from the Institute of Fluid Systems Technology has won one of the coveted poster prizes at the “Annual Meeting of Process Engineering and Materials Technology” (PEMT) 2024 in Frankfurt. With the poster “Plug-and-Approve? Potentials and Limitations of a Semantic PEA Documentation in the Asset Administration Shell”, an innovative approach to the semantic documentation of process units was presented, which enables FAIR and modular documentation. This methodology is being developed as part of the REUNION project in close collaboration between the FST and Industrial Science as well as other project partners.

The graphic representation of the solution on the poster was particularly praised, stimulating discussion among numerous conference participants leading to great approval from the audience. The positive feedback ultimately led to the audience vote, which secured the FST the Best Poster Award.

The overarching vision of modular, approvable systems was also presented by the three professors Norbert Kockmann (TU Dortmund), Leon Urbas (TU Dresden) and Peter Pelz (TU Darmstadt) in a joint plenary lecture. In addition to the central content of the REUNION project, the innovative approach of semantic modelling within the asset administration shell, which forms the basis for the documentation and use cases in approval and energy transparency processes, was also highlighted.

The REUNION project brings together universities, engineering service providers, suppliers, operators and authorities with the aim of establishing modular process plants as an industrial reality and further promoting Germany as a centre of innovation.
