Resilience demonstrator

Description

  • Test rig for investigating the resilience of water supply systems
  • Water is pumped from an open tank with two pumps into two acrylic glass cylinders and from there flows back to the tank via two valves
  • Transparent cylinders and visible sections allow visual access
  • Valves allow the introduction of disturbances and variation of the outflow at the cylinders
  • system topology can be customised with additional valves

Test methods

  • Validation of adaptive, signal-based control methods based on time series analysis and machine learning
  • Resilience evaluation of the technical system by analysing resilience metrics
  • Increasing resilience through adaptivity of the system topology
  • Impact of consumer behaviour on the resilience of the water supply system

Technology

  • Pump 1:
    • Heating circulation pump
    • Nominal power: 140 W
  • Pump 2:
    • Heating circulation pump
    • Nominal power: 65 W
  • Ball valve valves
    • Two electrically actuated ball valve valves
    • Five manual ball valve valves
  • Control valves: six electrically actuated, controllable proportional valves
  • Pressure measurement
    • Three piezoresistive differential pressure sensors
    • Two piezoresistive level sensors
  • Volume flow measurement: three magnetic-inductive flow sensors
  • Power measurement: two active power sensors
  • Temperature measurement: one PT100
